Space Race – Mission

Space Race: In this deep dive we examine the new space race.  The first space race was between the Soviet Union and the United States in the 1960’s.  It was clearly won by the US when we put a man on the moon in 1969.

This July we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of that landing.   At the same time we are watching a new space race exploding.  But this race is not just between countries like the US, Russia, and China, it is taking place between tech billionaires like Elon Musk (SpaceX), Jeff Bezos (Blue Origin), and Richard Branson (Virgin Galactic).

What is their motivation?  Ego?  Profits? Altruism?  They claim it is about nothing less than the future of humanity.  But can we trust a billionaire with the control of space?  Are our satellites safe?  Does it matter who colonizes the Moon and Mars?  We explore the motivations of countries and billionaires in the race for space, who is winning, and who we should be rooting for.
