LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas Metro Police released 2,100 pages of witness statements taken in the hours and dates following the Oct. 1 shooting. The 10 PDFs can be viewed and downloaded by clicking the buttons to the right.
Two weeks ago, the department released video from two of the officers’ body cameras showing police breaching the 32nd-floor Mandalay Bay suite of suspected gunman, Stephen Paddock and finding him dead on the floor, the apparent victim of a self-inflicted gunshot.
Metro had tried to delay the release of the video, 9-1-1 calls and these documents, but the Nevada Supreme Court ruled the information should be made public.
In these documents we not only find hundreds of previously sealed eyewitness accounts from inside the concert venue but we also learn of statements from people who dealt with Paddock in days leading up to the shooting.
In one f the most shocking accounts found in these documents, apparently, in the days leading up to the shooting, a man who had the schematics to build an AR-15 said he met Paddock at the Bass Pro Shop parking lot and turned down Paddock’s offer to build assault-style rifles for him for $500 a piece (see PDF 10). He said, Paddock was rambling about conspiracy theories and figured he was just another “internet nut” and that Paddock said “somebody has to wake up the American public and get them to arm themselves… sometimes sacrifices have to be made.”
